Elephant Dung Paper

What is Elefanten Dung Paper?

Paper is made from plants and elephants eat plants. Heaps of it!

And since their digestion is really poor, they only use about 40% of it and excrete the rest. However, chewed and chopped well.

So part of the work is already done.

Of course, the dung is cleaned and refined well, until it can finally be hand crafted in a beautiful natural paper.

This can now be used to write on it or to process it further.

Why do I do this?

The protection and survival of elephants and preserving their natural habitat is of particular concern to me.

Through my stays in various wildlife protection projects in southern Africa, I got to know and appreciate the work of the organization LEO Africa.

In 2017 I was very lucky to be able to monitor elephants for them for several weeks and to help create an extensive database of the elephants living in the Marataba section of the Marakele National Park.

LEO Africa does not receive any funding from the government, the reserve or any other institutions.

It is financed exclusively through the contribution from their volunteers and donors!

As a result of the corona pandemic, they have lost their main source of income and also have to forego the support of volunteers in their daily work in the bush and in the office.

This summer I planned to travel to South Africa for a few weeks to take over the observation of the elephants and maintenance of the database for LEO Africa again.

Since this will also not be possible through Corona, I would like to support the organization financially by selling some elephant dung paper products.

Furthermore I will participate in the LEO Africa Charity Auction.

Without income they cannot keep the work going for long!

What do you get here?

On this page I present various handmade elephant dung paper products.

Unless otherwise stated, the handmade paper is made from 100% elephant dung.

By purchasing the labeled products, you make a direct contribution to wildlife and nature conservation, since the income benefits the organization LEO Africa in South Africa.
